Tuesday night showed not what we are missing (we have known that for some years now) but it showed what the rest of the Premiership are missing.

Us -Leeds United

They need vists to a full and jumping Elland Road as part of their football adrenelin rush. There are few places as exciting as a full ER when we are playing well against a good side.

The game needs us back

Oi! Less of the "lower club supporter", grasshopper. But of course, you're right - for all the pride and bravado, the truth is that's what we are right now.

A lot's changed in the Premier League since Leeds dropped out five years ago (a lot's changed at Leeds too), and it's been just about long enough for Tuesday night to not only be a taste of what we're missing, but also what some youngsters have never known.

Near-misses are what Leeds United are all about - and while this was a big test, it's not the test this season. Promotion is. Pass that and we can start thinking about being the smack in the chops the Premier League - swaggering around, all dripping in gold - is asking for.

It is, in the end, always the boyhood dream of the lower club supporter, to compete on par with the big boys. Or even not competing on par but beating them, in a "surprise" or "shock" victory, as the gutter calls it then every time. I think that it needs defeats, near-misses like this one to ensure that the memory of that one glory night stands out.
Would you beat the likes of the money boys from the greedy league every now and then, the attraction would be lost, in a way.
Defeats are the build up and the acre for the big victory, without wanting to sound too much like Sun-Tzu or any other oriental wise men.
